Animals that live in the open ocean live in a giant blue desert. Compared to coastal waters, the pelagic zone has very little sea life. The waters are clear and blue. When we were in Hawaii sailing between the channels we were in a pelagic zone. Water depths were at times 5,000 feet! This is a short video we compiled about the dolphins and whales that we saw between the islands. These are marine mammals that can venture a long ways from land ... into the oceanic pelagic zone.
