Spider-Lilly (Hymenocallis pedalis): Amaryllidaceae
Spider
lillies are often grouped in the genus Hymenocallis which
comprises about 30 to 40 species. This particular species is native
to northern South America. Its got fragrent flowers and a very attractive
blossom. This lily has stamens emerging out of a unified staminal
cup at the base of the flower, but seperate from the corolla
Some Spider lilies are used medicinally.For example H. littoralis contains substances in the bulbs which are being tested for use
against cancer and human viral infections.
