Lecheso: Stemmadenia galeottiana (Apocynaceae)
Lechoso is typically seen as a small tree with bright white fragrant
flowers that flower throughout the year. It yeilds small fruits
that look like the hooks of a miniature anchor. Like many plants
in the Apocynaceae family the sap is reported to be toxic. Its native
to central America, but now grown circumtropical.
From
a taxonomic standpoint, lecheso resides in the genus Stemmadenia which contains about 20 other trees and shrubs from tropical
america. All have similar shapped fruits. ONe such as Stemmadenia
obovata. is named horse testicles, because of the fruits.
