Adasonia digitata - Dead Rat Tree
Bombacaceae
The
"dead rat tree", or Adansonia digitata, is a
member of the Bombacaceae family. Its got long drooping flowers
that are filled with many stamen. These flowers soon become long
hairy fruits that seem to resemble dead rats hanging upside down
by their tails.
The tree is a gigantic tree, often called the elephant tree. Its got a smooth shiny grey trunk. It's native to Africa.
