Talibot Palm:
Corypha umbraculifera
The Talibot Palm is truely a giant in the plant
world. In Hawaii, Lyon Arboretum holds on the world's largest palm
trees, Corypha utan. Rounding the corner of a trail to
see this massive giant, with 30 foot leaves, is truely an awe inspiring
sight.
This palm reaches maturity in 30-80 years and
then sends up one large infloresence out the top. This flower stalk
is all the plant has for the next generation. After this sensational
show, it will slowly die over the next year.
