Annonaceae:

This is a family with approximately 2,300 species in 130 genera (Carr). Its most notable species have edible fruit and often aromatic oils. Paw-paw, custard apple and soursop are all edible and of economic importance. Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) is a plant used for its aromatic oils in things such as perfumes.


Systematics:

Look for disticus leaves (leaves that all lay in one plain). Perianth in 3 sets of 3 - an inner whorl, middle whorl and outer whorl. Numerous seperate pistils, numerous seperate stamens. Endosperm is ruminate when taken in crosssection. Stamen compacted very tightly together and only revealing the soft heads.
